Special Events

As per request. I have added a list of shops and the dates which you can buy ROYCE' chocolates in the Kanto area. It is much cheaper that ordering directly from the shop since you don't have to pay for the shipping fee which is 1,100yen. If you have the chance, please stop by! They will definitely have this month's special edition Nama chocolate "calvados"!

You can see the list from the top menu or here.

Honeybees in Tokyo

Found an interesting site about honeybees being kept in the middle of Tokyo
a couple of months ago. Then when I went to the Ceramic market (Setomono
ichi) in Ningyocho they were passing out leaflets saying that you could see
the honeybees for free! I couldn't pass up the chance and got to see the
bees up close. They are saying that there is a shortage of honeybees....what
would I do without my ROYCE Prafeuille Chocolate Honey!

Heading towards Chocolate Season

Cooler weather is nicer to chocolate so in Tokyo not as many varieties of
chocolates are sold. Delicate "nama" chocolates tend to perspire and melt
due to the humidity and heat. Maybe that is why ROYCE' Ishigaki doesn't
have Nama. Anyway, I will be buying from the internet from September since I
haven't found any special event shops where I am located. Besides, the
September limited edition chocolate is Marron (chestnut) and I am sure that
it will be wonderful!

Mitaka Awa Odori

On August 22-23, they held an Awa Odori Festival at Mitaka which I happened
to see. Actually Awa Odori is probably originating from Tokushima where they
have a huge 4 day dance fest. All the music is "live" with the shamisens,
drums, flutes and drums and each group has their own "band" and is
choreographed accordingly. I saw men doing backflips! They have a phrase for
the Awa dancers "Fools are dancing, fools are watching! Both are fools, so
you might as well dance!"

Kokuto Chocolate (Brown Sugar Chocolate) Karinto

Do you remember my blog about Karinto previously? This is the same Japanese confectionery karinto and is covered with Kukoto Chocolate (Brown Sugar Chocolate) instead of milk chocolate. The brown sugar from the southern islands has the aroma of molasses and the unrefined taste is great.

Gateau Ganache

These 6 pieces of moist round cakes has raw chocolate kneaded into it so that it has depth yet a delicate cacao taste. Also they have added grind orange peel so that it has a freshness. The top of the cake has chopped hazelnuts so that you have a crunchy top and a soft bottom. This is all coated with a thin coating of chocolate which is bitter and balances well with the sweetness of the cake inside.

Nutty Bar Chocolate

This is a slim chocolate bar packed with almonds, cashews, pecans, macadamia nuts with light puffs and crunchy almond cookies bits. The chocolate is not soft but hard and you can taste a hint of hazelnut paste that they have mixed in it. I love this nutty bar and I first only both the box of 10 pieces and unconsciuously ate 5 in a row while typing away of my pc! It must be popular with other people too because there are boxes of 10 pieces, 18 pieces and 54 pieces. Definitely I will be buying the 54 piece box next time! Yum! Yum!

Petit Kurumaro Chocolat

This is good! I have written about the regular kurumaro previously and showed you a video of how hard it was to cut! This is much much better! In the box is individually wrapped kurumaro chocolate which is made of milk chocolate and filled with walnuts and marshmallows. Actually I like this a lot better that the regular kurumaro, not only because it is pre-cut, but I think the amount of chocolate and nuts and marshmallows seem to be more balanced. There seems to be less chocolate. Could it be because the petit kurumaro is a round disk while the regular one is loaf shaped or could it be that since I had such hard time cutting the regular one that I just think so? Oh well... whichever, but I surely would recommend this one and my BFF agrees!
